Here's another from back in the 80's.

I used to have one of those Sanyo speedometers on my racer that ran off a cable connected to a small wheel on a spring loaded bracket that ran against the front tyre (similar idea to a dynamo). The speedo went up to 50mph, although looking back I somehow doubt it was entirely accurate.

The trouble was at anything above an indicated 25mph, the little wheel had a tendency to skip and jump about, meaning the needle never gave a steady reading.

So I decided to cycle down the steepest local hill, which just happened to be a dual carriageway, pedalling as quickly as I could in the highest of my 12-speeds with one hand on the drops, the hand other reaching down the front fork holding the small wheel in place against the tyre, while looking at the speedo rather than the road ahead...

I'm pleased to report that somehow I survived unscathed and, perhaps more importantly, managed to get the speedo needle off the clock. :okay:
Thats a classic fella , proper made me laugh .

Went on a down hill course with no skills and hit a jump wrong and front wheel planted in front of many spectators. They asked why I didn't reccy the course first, like that would have helped.

Going down this path from Whinny Hill to the bottom on a chopper as a 7 year old kid. The house at the bottom wasn't built and it was just a drop into a field of nettles what could go wrong. At least I never broke any bones other folk who tried did. Its only -5.7% at it steepest (-5.3% average) and just 0.2miles long but it seemed mahoosive as a kid

The (normally busy) road out of my village frequently floods to a good 70cm in winter.

Obviously with an old bike or old car (Mk3 Golf diesel) it is quite possible to go through, at least if you don't mind wet legs on the bike. I was always amazed at the number of people who would follow you through, before having an involuntary stop half way through. Sheep left feeling sheepish.

Jumped on a BMX from the roof of one building to another over a 4ft gap. I was 12 years old and indestructible, I put myself in hospital. Not from the jump, but half an hour later on the way home my handle bar clipped a fence and I fell off and split my head open.

Let me think. I don't think this was it, though it comes close.

Went to a club newcomers ride for a 8am subzero start. Kept to gritted roads but there's not enough traffic that early on Sundays, so I entered the car park sideways. The club then proceeded to drop all the newcomers on the homeward leg. Not gone to another of that club and I can well understand why some think all clubs are like that.

I rode right around the Wirral coast line , up to Chester / Mickle Trafford /Kelsall up over old pale at Delamere , back thru kings wood , into Frodsham , ince / elesmere port and home all on a Birdy Bike , ( folding small wheel bike ) just over 72 miles . Bit slippy in the forest but enjoyable.

The maddest bit was going through Ellesmere Port. You should have gone round.
