Dazzling the driver of an oncoming car is a danger to both parties (and is illegal). Do you really want the driver of an approaching car not to be able to see where he's going?

It's actually true. Considering getting a 5000 lumen light. I ride fast, in unlit country lanes. If there's a piece of squirrel sh*t 30 metres ahead I want to know about it. A little driver dazzle at 6.30am helps to wake them up.

If it's aimed at the ground then it wont blind people.

Well it might do if its raining and the light shines downwards then gets reflected to oncoming drivers.

I've just bought one of these. They're exceedingly bright.

As a comparison with the Hope 1 (current model),on the lower setting it's a bit brighter than the Hope on its full power setting. The Magicshine has a wider beam of light, but it's much whiter so possibly a bit too stark compared with the softer, slightly yellow light from the Hope. I'll see how it copes with the moors on the way between Manchester & Morecambe tomorrow night.
