Cycle related for me but a problem for drivers also.
The whole of Warrington road networks seems to be getting repaired.
There are really serious diversions.....some of them for many weeks.
e.g............
One of my favourite cycle routes south (Culcheth>>Glazebrook>>Hollins Green.........fully closed for 4 weeks/partially closed 6 weeks. The diversion must add 5 miles to some people and for me would mean cycling along a dangerous stretch of the A57.
Main A49..........partial closure.
My main route to town is closed for weeks...........the diversion must add approx 2 miles (depending on where try to get to).
And many more smaller ones.
Bearing in mind some of these were in real need for a long time............
Why now ???
I can only assume they have had a shed load of money from somewhere but you normally see councils going mad March/April in order to spend the budget.
Don't get me wrong......this is not a rant..........just a puzzle.

Quite a lot of resurfacing work being done around here too, after many years of neglect.
Let's hope they do the job properly this time, rather than just handing the contract to the cheapest bidder whose work gets washed away in one winter. One of the roads about to be resurfaced here is a main trunk road which was done less than 5 years ago with the usual closures, diversions and general chaos for weeks. Now we've got to do it all again.

Council's got to look like it's doing something.

They did that to me recently. For a week it was impossible to leave our village by bike die to either fresh top dressing, temporary traffic lights that wouldn't activate for anything smaller than the USS Nimitz, or both.

I did email the county carncil to thank them for effectively imprisoning me at home, but they were too busy signing off more roadworks and traffic lights to reply.

Blackburn town centre has been under redevelopment for years Road works and diversions are everywhere. Even worse than that, they've been building a bus route/cycle lane thingy. The Romans built roads faster than Lancs County Council and the contractors!:headshake:
