Make yourself human

Recently I've noticed that I do something when waiting at traffic lights. I've found I tend scratch my leg or nose, do a big sigh, pick at my fingers, fiddle with my bike etc. I caught myself doing it recently and I realised that sub-consciously I was doing it to try and humanise myself, i.e. to make sure that the drivers around me saw me as a person and not a cyclist.

Does anyone else do this type of thing? Do you think it makes a difference?

When the warm weather sets in (still waiting) and they have their windows wound down I should start singing songs to them, I wonder if that would work. I was once Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls you know.....

Luck be a lady tonight........:biggrin::biggrin:

That would work as well, though. Just something that looks like a normal human activity. In fact I wonder if getting off the bike and doing a dance would reduce my close passes just after the lights change......:biggrin::biggrin:

I do this, mostly it's smiling, looking round, and talking to drivers or other cyclists. Makes a huge difference.

I don't as I normally spot some fat, minging blokes in a Bankss Bitter delivery lorry pointing or gawping at my t*ts :biggrin: which annoys me. Tact completely lost of course.

I do have a drink however, and say hi should any cyclists pull up by me.

I just get the positions of the cars behind me and make assesments on what they are going to do and that applies to all road users round me.i dont need to smile like a demented hyena but hold my concentration but will talk to be courteous if the need be.my parents told me i should never speak to strangers but if they offer me sweets it's ok.
