Up until quite recently I had over 100 hundred die cast models of Jaguars, a significant number of them where E-types, my favourite car of all time. I wish I could afford a real one. It's on my bucket list.

I think you might be disappointed. OK, it looks great, but a decent modern car would be better in every other respect.

I don't really get the yearning for old machinery. I have owned a 'classic British motorbike' and a 'classic British sportscar' and IME they were pretty rubbish - badly made, unreliable and outdated even for their time. The E Types were new-ish when I were a lad and no modern car user would accept vehicles made to such a poor standard. Lovely shape, pity about the crap brakes, inadequate lights, lack of rustproofing..... and the windows leaked, from new.

What I would really like is one of those new E-types, they use the old body shape but the engines and all the techy stuff is modern. But they are kajillions of pounds.
 
As much as I like the E-type, how pretty is this Italian?

and who buys a classic 2 door drop top because its 'practical' or 'economical'?
Car manufacturing has come a long way since the 60's but then as now the competing technologies were all about the same from the different manufacturers. I would quite happily put up with an E-type mechanical foibles, but I wouldn't swap the nice Samsung LED tv in the corner for it's 60's equivalent.
