Noooooooo

We took a trip to Sicily one year - the journey out was lovely; 60 minutes and the sea was like a mill pond. The return journey was a nightmare, 4 hours of being tossed around by stormy seas - I swear to god that when we saw the lights of Valletta and the Grand Harbour they were vertical, not horizontal and going up and down like someone punching a light sabre up and down. Even the crew were being seasick!

In a clear-out of our bookshelves, i have come across a Travellers book on Malt & Gozo, author Susie Boulton. Published in 2007, so not bang up to date but not ancient either. Its all yours if you would like it.

Just to close this out, I've just booked a week on the Istrian Coast in Croatia for mid September . Couldn't find anything decent in Malta for similar cash

Yep, who'd have kids! £350pp self catering for a two bed apartment 5 mins from the sea

Ok... holy thread resurrection! I'd forgotten I'd even posted this 9 years ago!

My mum wants to go away again in the autumn, not too far, warm but not roasting and has never been to Malta.

Any recommendations for where to stay for a week? I know nothing.

She's pretty much wheelchair bound other than short distances with a wheeled trolley so any hotel has to have walk in showers, have good lifts, not be up a massive hill/cliff etc !

4/5 star ideally. Nice pool big enough for swimming, maybe a spa area, gym (for me).
Restaurant with decent breakfast and either lunch/dinner (plus places to go out so some 'nightlife, probably in/near a town)

Probably hire a car for some exploring although we prefer shopping to old stones!!
I know not a very beachy location but some accessible sand/calm sea would be good

Budget flexible, probably fly EasyJet in the front row or possibly BA club from Gatwick, depends on flight times (not sparrow fart early or overnight!)

Thanks!

Edit...reading back it didn't seem a popular choice, where else suitable for autumn sunshine? 3 hours from London max give or take, not Menorca, probably not Majorca, nor Costa Del Sol, not Madeira, not Canaries!

Well, write it down boy ......
I went to Malta in October 2022 and loved it. Loads of history and a great vibe, I'd go back like a shot. Valetta is surprisingly hilly though and I don't think suitable for your mother. I would suspect that many of the Mediterranean islands would be too hilly.

How about the Algarve? Fly to Faro and hire a car or stay there.
My wife has just come back from Jerez and liked there too. Not touristy in her opinion.

She doesn’t seem keen on the Algarve, she and I went many years ago.
Accessibility is certainly a concern. I can check hotels that SAGA use (did so for Menorca last year, it was reasonably accessible other than two tiny lifts for a large hotel with plenty of older guests!) but if outside is hilly, cobbly, narrow pavements etc it becomes a nightmare!

We liked Malta. But we went in 2010 on a whim after watching The Malta Story. The local buses were old 1960s buses and were great. Our plan was to find the place where the closing scene of the film was shot. It was not easy. But we are sure we found where it was. Travelling around the island on very cheap buses was an adventure.
