“That’s when I saw the cyclist in the middle of the road. He hit the car, then I stopped my vehicle. I didn’t think he had lights on. I know I was not on his side of the road.”

scumbag, I wouldn't be so sure mag, that girl just went to the big house for 18 months, plead guilty to dangerous driving but they still went for and got causing death by dangerous driving despite seemingly not too much in the way of aggravating details

This case does not compare with the young girl convicted last week based on the court reports.

She was negligent, took responsibility and was contrite. Bad driver but bad person?

This guy was not negligent - he deliberately and knowingly drove dangerously and illegally with foreseeable consequences. Worse still he lied and tried to pin the blame on the victim. No contrition reported.

Bad driver, bad person, a continuing threat not only as a driver but to the community at large whether on foot, bike or vehicle. I guess the reports are to help the judge find, if possible, whether this guy might be susceptible to some redemptive sentence - make him safer. But otherwise the book should really be thrown at him because he is a danger to us all and his behaviour and attitude prior and subsequent to the crash is the real problem.

Removal from society (a long prison sentence and lifetime ban) may be expensive but I can think of none better.
