While I wimped out of riding in today due to coming off on my way home last night, this lad still rode in this morning.

On a bmx!

Came off three times on his journey apparently, but kept getting back on!

I say 'young lad', what I mean is 'real man'.

It's been is snowing like heck here and is really thick on t'ground. Hardly anything has passed the house except...

..an elderly gentleman on an upright bicycle wi' basket and wearing a flat 'at.

..oh and an hour later, the gritting lorry.

I was the only person who biked into work yesterday. Heaving my bike through the snow to get to the staff bike shed I passed one of the groundsmen, who was shovelling snow away from the work vans. When I went back to get my bike I found that he'd shovelled me a path to the bike shed. I thought it was nice of him.

Step through bikes I reckon hold up pretty well, as if you start to fall its easier to get off. My bike was one of the few non-mountain bikes at the station yesterday. I wimped out this morning but that was mainly as I didn't fancy a 6.45 start, but am going for it tomorrow despite the 10cm of snow forecast overnight.

While driving home yesterday, I saw a guy on a skinny-wheeled road bike.

I'd like to call him brave, but I think he was a little inexperienced judging by the way he was struggling to keep her upright.

London was full of cyclists today, some looking steady, some slipping and sliding. The roads, even fairly major ones, were close to becoming ice rinks. I was driving this morning but will be cycling home tonight, all things being equal & gritting lorries permitting.

I agree that they're easier to slip off of when it's a slow motion fall, as happened to me on Tuesday while going through thick slush. I don't think having a step through will help us if we slip on ice though, we'll be on the floor before we know it.

We haven't had the volume of snow here that other have had but its been very cold and there's been a fair amount of ice about. I've still managed to pedal to and from work on my fixed every day.

Yesterday I cycled to school and back on slick 28mm's, I nearly came off 4-5 times, they held up pretty well when the snow started, but now its too deep!
They had a surprising amount of grip on black ice, the only way I found out was when I put my foot on the ground and nearly fell over.

Was quite glad that I got sent on an after work mission in the company van tonight means I took the van home with bike in the back)

Brakes and gears were frozen up this morning, couple of bowls of hot water sorted brakes and front meck, salt and crud in the rear cable left it siezed....had to pull cable out and leave it in 2nd to top gear on the back by the limit screws and just use front mech

Also, no way was I riding on any side roads

You're tripping out... There's no such thing as a gritting lorry in York (They never grit between Stamford Bridge and Knaresborough)
