Hey,
Been floating around on the site for a while using tapatalk but finally signed up this morning :hello:

Been commuting on my Mountain bike from Urmston to the city centre for a few months now but have just picked up an old Trek road bike that I hope will go a bit quicker  Unfortunately I've found that cycling has started costing me more than my Kitesurfing and my dirty motorbikes (Don't hate me )

Few small niggles with it and questions to ask but I'll do that in the appropriate sections

First time on a bike with drop's last Friday’s commute, its going to take some getting used too !

Have been doing an 8 mile commute into Manchester city on my mountain bike for a couple of months now and took the plunge and brought a road bike off eBay, its an old bike 2004 ! But it's not seen much action. Less than 500 miles I'd say, few scrapes and marks from being unloved but other wise in top condition.

The gears were no where near when I got it along with wobbly wheels, poorly adjusted brakes, broken clip in pedals and a loose head set. Spent the last few days sorting out the niggles and cleaning it ready for the maiden voyage, borrowed some pedals and swapped my lights and computer from the mountain bike and this morning I braved it.

It’s strange how the whole bike felt alien, the position of the gears, brakes and seating position all requiring extra brain power. Felt a lot less stable and not having the brakes as accessible is a bit un-nerving, took it steady round the corners too as I don't have any confidence in the tyres yet. But all that said I really enjoyed my first ride on it even though my feet kept coming off the pedals and the chain came off twice over the top of the front ring  (Needed the limit adjusting before home time), I will be watching out for them pot holes a bit more now though as its definitely a bit harder on the bum and wrists.

Very happy with my new bike especially considering what I paid for it ! On the list to upgrade, new seat, rack and a pannier and some tyres. Already fitted some Shimano M324 pedals and some race blades J Just need shoes now.

Did just under 1000 miles on my mountain bike so far, hopefully this beautiful bike will do a lot more in the years to come.

Welcome from another Urmstonion (is that even a word?). I commute by bike most days from near the centre of Urmston so I may see you at some point depending on your route and time. I'm generally on the road at about 8am, red/white Specialized Allez Elite leaving everyone in my wake (that statement may contain some lies ).

Corners on a road bike should be okay but watch out for ice/leaves - went down like a sack of spuds last week on some ice at the end of our road... been a bit cautious since whenever the road is wet!

:hello: everyone who's said hi

I'm a faker, not from the north west originally but I'm marrying into it

And 8am is a bit too early for me but I'll keep an eye out for all you guys on the road, when it starts warming up next year I'm hoping to do some meets but need to get my mileage up first.

I'm doing the run into work in about 23mins at 6.9 miles with 17/18mph average but its flat  Think a 50 miler would finish me off

@Sh4rky

Just watching your vids and thought I recognised the road with the Landrover, thats part of the route I take as well. Which way do you go at the end ? I've been crossing over to Talbot Road and down onto chester road as it seems quieter than chester road onto bridge waterway.

Talbot Road to Trafford Bar (Metro station) then down Stretford Road through Hulme (over the strange bridge). I'm based just off Oxford Road rather than City Centre though. Seen that Landrover a few times since that vid... still driving around like a complete f*ckwit! Grrrr.

Generally an okay commute though.

Funny how people from Tyldesley say they live in Astley and people from Astley usually say they're from Worsley... my SiL does anyway.

I'm going to ditch "Irlam" and start saying "Upper Glazebrook"
