Subway 1 with Schwalbe Winters on it.... sounded like a tank down the icy roads but made me feel a hell of a lot safer in terms of grip.

On me tri bars as well!

Only joking- i don't have tri bars. It's not bad on the busy A roads honestly. It's when you get on the back streets it's a bit lethal. Just gotta take it steady.

Just been out to the shops and like you say main road looks fine, forecast for -8c tonight puts me off a bit though.
Hopefully back on it Thursday. It's going to be a major diet fest in the New Year, currently putting a lb a week on

Missed all last week and went on the train, pitifull service.
7:30am train rammed full at Castleton, comming home roughly 6/7ish cancellations and cattle market comes to mind.
I was going to come on the sirius with 23 gatorskins but I'm not 100% and everyone in the house is a little ropey so I dont want to risk becomming really ill.
9am this morning it was -7 scraping the car...occasionally -8 until I reached Middleton junction.
Hill walking weather!!!

Mised the fog, but minus something silly...... smugly passed all my neighbours hacking ice of their cars this monring, only to get a phone call at 8.50am - car frozen can't get it to move (handbrake frozen) - had to get changed, ride back home, sort car, then dry sweatty clothes, then cycle back to work.................. grrrrrrrr

Side roads were like scating rinks, and some dodgy looking surfaces...still wouldn't get me out on 23mm tyres though......

I'm on 23's and haven't dared to brave it since the snow fell...

Remembering the pain of the badly bruised hip sustained last time i took a risk with ice make the bus just about the preferable option.
Bike's been stuck at work for a week, and I really really hate the bus.. so maybe tonight the scales will swing the other way.

Sod cycling when there is ice all over the place, I prefer and mode of transport that doesnt fall over at the first hint of ice under its front wheels !

Finally braved the weather to cycle to work tonight as the forecast, while cold, is supposed to be dry. After hearing all the lily livered whineing on here about the treacherous conditions I thought I had better man up and lead by example so with fleece then coat then fleece on top, I rode the 11 miles to work and it was fine. I even hopped up onto the rough icy kerb a few times and my hybrid with 700x35 schwalbe road tyres (not sure but maybe roadcruisers?) coped just great provided respect was shown for the surface being ridden on.

Just over half way through my 12hr shift and temps are supposed to be around -10 when I am riding home at 7am so I wll know then if the bike was a good idea and if I am wearing enough clothes on my extremities!!! BRING IT ON..........
