I'm off to Holland for a quick dash from Hoek van Holland to Amsterdam in a few weeks. I've been a few times before but I always get lost in a couple of towns when I miss a bike sign using the excellent numbering system that they use (Knooppunten). I decided to download some paper street maps of the places in which I usually go astray, and discovered MapQuest. Here's a link to Katwijk, a place I'm going before branching off into unknown territory....

Don't be put off by the faintly motorist-oriented slant. Just zoom in and prowl around. At the highest magnification you can see house numbers and they mark all the cycle paths clearly. I have not yet worked out the Print facilities but I have found this works really well instead....

Get a Print Screen image...Alt Prt Scr
Open Paint, and Copy the screenshot into it
Highlight the bit of the map that you want....
Hit Control P

That's it. I know a lot of people will say "Why not get a Garmin?" but where's the fun in that? It's no challenge if you can't get lost.

No need to give MapQuest all the credit, it is OpenStreetMap data underneath. Welcome to the 21st century.
