Have you been to Hastings recently, it's a dump.
Some of those former south coast holiday towns are really on their knees.
I was in Folkestone only on Monday and I was shoked at what I saw. Very high levels of deprivation.

Back in October I drove from Folkestone to Soton and took the coastal route. It's all very deprived looking until after Hastings (Bexhill) then it gets a better although Soton is considerably worse than it was when I worked there in the 80's. What are they doing to it?

I think he was referring to the War Of The Roses, more than anything else. I might be wrong of course.
I took it that he was having a dig at Burnley, so the hairs on my woolly back became raised!:ninja:Maybe he wasn't?
Am I wrong in thinking @martint235 was joking? About the Wars of the Roses? (I see @classic33 thought so too)
For crying out loud, what's happened up north? It used to be that when you mentioned "sides" and "Pennines" in the same sentence it could only ever refer to the WotR.

But I was having a dig at Burnley, I'm from Nelson which actually makes Burnley look like Kensington although for some reason Pendle (the constituency containing Nelson) rarely gets a mention in the list of deprived areas whereas Burnley really does get a mention. I'm guessing Nelson is just off the scale so they leave it alone.

Something needs to be done to stop this spread of disinformation by Crock. The entire South West of London is terrible, a cultural wasteland with few redeeming features save the A3 to get you to better parts of town

Soton's never been a looker as far as cities go, but in general it seems to be doing ok. The main criticism I've heard is that it's the place the rest of Hampshire goes to shop and then leave. This book is a good read and gives Scum's 'regeneration' a very special kicking. There's certainly not that creeping sense of hopelessness that I remember from my one and only visit to Hastings.
