I've never been into his music, but the contrast between his modest, thoughtful eloquence and the foaming intolerance displayed by his many detractors made an impression on me, from Bowling for Columbine onwards. I hope he pulls through.

I like some bits and bobs of his but don't profess to be any sort of expert or fan. A mate of mine is however and a number of years ago went to see him in concert, taking with him a mutual friend who would be fairly described as conservative, Hale and Oates being his go to choice in music.
According to my mate, Kevin stood open mouthed when Marilyn first took to the stage and screamed;
"Spit on me you mother farkers!!" at the audience and then stood in a state of shock for the rest of the evening. I guess he had his horizons broadened if nothing else.

Though not being into his music either, I happened to catch him at a festival many years ago: he was mesmerising and had the crown in the palm of his hand for the entire set.
