It should be interesting, l've listened to him since the days of 'Out On Blue 6', through 'Graveyard Shift' (with Marc 'Boy Lard' Riley) his present 6Music show with Stuart Maconie

He introduced to a few bands that I'd never heard, just as John Peel used to, & bought CDs of, such as;
Tindersticks, British Sea Power, Show Of Hands, Airborne Toxic Event, etc....

I guess l'm not alone in listening to him?

I couldn't be doing with Mark & Lard but liked him with Maconie. He has done quite a few, very interesting, music programmes on BBC4 so I've kind of grown into him. I rather like him now.

I think I can vaguely remember listening to the last Mark + Lard radio show. Was the last song played Tindersticks Tiny Tears?

I too came across Mark Radcliffe on Out on Blue 6. Recently came across a play of his on Radio 4.

Hope you have a great evening.

Ah, that was you! Decided not to press the point about cyclists holding up motorists then? :laugh:

I thought the diplomatic approach seemed best. Plus before I went on air, Henrietta had warned me not to swear...

Not sure if it was, or not?
I think the first track of theirs, l heard on the show was possibly 'My Sister', or 'Buried Bones'
I've got the last show on tape somewhere, but it's also on YouTube

From his books, it seems that he's played a pivotal role in modern music;
- The first DJ to play Madonna, on British radio, done as a favour to an 'A & R' friend
- kept Kylie Minogue in the public consciousness, between the time of the 'Neighbours' era songs, and the 'Spiining Around' and such songs
-first interview, for a LOT of years with Kate Bush

On a sadder note, he is responsible for Chris Evans remaining on radio (pleading for him, after Evans wiped important interview)

I was on the Chain this afternoon - had a good chat with Mr Radcliffe about bikes!
I'll have a listen on iPlayer

Mark and Lard were very influential on my appreciation for music and other culture as a teenager, but the jokes started to wear thin once they moved to daytime. I still and will always think Mark Radcliffe is a godlike genius but to honest I find Marc Riley a bit tedious these days.

On a slightly related note, anyone remember Oink! comic?

I had to drive through that Bradford today. What a dump. I mean a serious dump an all.
