I stopped ever using the Bristol / Bath path when I was told by 2 different men (2 unconnected conversations) that they had been mugged on it in the prev couple of months. Both of them seemed to know of other similar events at the time. Neither of the guys were 'racing snake' build, but normal fit looking blokes late 30's/40's who did not look to me like physically easy targets. I kept an eye on the news reports for a bit and crossed the path off my cycling list. Its very discouraging to others when men in their physical prime are seen as safe to attack/rob, as what hope for those less able to defend themselves?

This has been going on in London with Bromptons for years. They never seem to surface again and I have always thought that they are being stolen to order and shipped abroad to Asia.

It's interesting the way he gives the other guy the hammer and tells him to get on with it.

I live near there, and my own motorbike was smashed up in a botched theft, again with a group of four burly blokes: at 3am rather than broad daylight
