Yes, if there's one thing that encapsulates the dumbing-down of television, it's that.
Unnecessary pauses in speech drive me nuts.

The thing about 'celebrity' masterchef is that quite frankly I have no idea who most of them are, We have caught a bit of it and shrugged, no idea

Most programmes with the name "Celebrity" in only matter if you are familiar with the gossip mags and 3rd rate soap actors

I don't watch it and if people want to that's fine by me, but why put it on so often & at prime time ?

It's the prime time thing that gets to me. Dross programs like this belong to daytime TV along with banal quiz shows and 'how much is this piece of tat that I found in the loft' worth programs.

And what's with Grand Designs? Seems like it has a channel all to itself at times - an endless stream of 'wow, look at me' projects. Do people have nights in and 'do' Grand Designs whilst downing a Ruby and quaffing posh plonk?

Fixed wheel fanatic.
I had a few years in the mid/late ninetys without a TV and that completely broke the spell of the telly on me. It was a bit annoying to have people blether on constantly about what they had watched the night before. Corry this, Eastenders that, did you see? at work.
These days the telly is on as a bit of background noise in the evening. I've seen a few progs recently that I've enjoyed. But as cunobelin has said anything with the word celebrity gets turned off as do any X factor/jungle/"Britain's talentless" type programmes. My wife has recently discovered "Say yes to the dress", now that is seriously grim TV!!!
