I've booked a table (for my girlfriend's 50th) at the Michelin 2 star restaurant which is being featured on Masterchef tonight.

I like a nice meal as much as the next person, but I've never been anywhere this fancy before. Excluding drinks I'd expect to pay about £20 a head for a decent meal, rising to £50 a head for an exceptional meal.

So will £89 a head () for 10 courses (:ohmy:) be worth it?

Absolutely. It's not just the food, which I can imagine will be excellent. But the whole experience and ambience of a top notch restaurant is well worth the money and a great treat. Enjoy.

We had dinner at the Savoy Grill recently. It cost £200 for the two of us, and was worth every penny. The food was astounding, the service impeccable and the whole experience was the best I've had in a restaurant.

Yes as you will have a dining experience. IMHO that is a reasonably priced menu for a two michelin star restaurant.
The fat duck which is three star for example charges £195 per head with a 12.5% service charge.

Think of it like going to a west end show or a major concert, the experience the bit you will remember. A couple of years ago I got to spend my birthday at the highest rated restaurant in Iceland, very special, it is something I will always remember.

I nearly did sat baines for my birthday this year, but we picked on Hambleton in Rutland instead. Perhaps next year

I once asked my holiday rep to recommend a good restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday when we were out in Thailand. She told me about a new one nearby but added she must warn me that it was REALLY expensive. After a look at the menu we booked a table for two nights later. True enough it was really expensive (compared to the rest in the area) but the whole experience and food was simply WOW and at the equivalent of £30 a head I was delighted. Enjoyed it so much we booked again a couple of years later when back over there.

Following that I'd have no issue going to a similarly recommended restaurant in the UK at three or four times that .

Hope you enjoy it, I'm sure you will.
..and a bit further away, just past Chesterfield, you can also try Fischers at Baslow Hall - the lunches are fabtastic and they're bike friendly (but you're supposed to be smart casual - not that we've ever been challenged ).

Baslow hill is pretty gruelling, though.
I've looked at doing Fischers, for a weekend stopover to get some walking in too.

Well, last night was the big night.

What an absolutely fantastic experience^_^

The food was astonishingly good and the service outstanding.

I can't begin to describe the food, but everything from nettle soup to chicken muesli to rice pudding was on the taster menu!

The real revelation for me was the drinks - we had the 'set drinks menu', where each course was accompanied by an appropriate wine. The sommelier explained why each wine had been chosen and a bit about it. I've gone from a bottle of house red man to a wannabe wine buff overnight!

In summary a fantastic experience. Ridiculously expensive, but as a very occasional treat well worth it. 100% recommended:thumbsup:

Nice one. So glad you enjoyed it.
Sounded like a totally awesome night and experience.

I am in Cannes for a few days week after next for work so will be filling my boots with plenty of fine dining.
