The article was four years ago. If his incitement to violence had been treated the same way as the infamous riot posts on Facebook, his jail sentence would just about be coming to an end now.

It's not a grudge, just some people have either been here a long time or have decent memories. One former member of cyclechat also got taken down quite badly by someone's "prank".

Fair enough. I take your point and will alter my position. I've spent much of my working life among people who are still cross (to the point of killing people) about events in 1389.

Anything less than a decade seems the mere blinking of an eye in comparison.

I withdraw my earlier observation. I support you in your continued disapproval.

It's not OK to garotte a cyclist, nor is it OK to inflict corporal punishment on a driver for dangerous or selfish parking.
.

My apologies - this has come across the wrong way.

I agree that it is totally unacceptable. However this question is a tool that shows the sheer hypocrisy and bigotry of many of those who "justify" the original offence on the DM and other rags.

The answer is always silence or a statement that drivers "need" to speed or park on the pavement therefore the offence is a reasonable escalation if it is a cyclist, but is unjustified in the case of drivers.

This happened on one of the trails in Hamsterley forest. Luckily he was going slow due to the conditions but if he was travelling at the speed you can achieve on some of the downhill sections it would of seriously injured him if not killed hin

Another complication of wire hitting the neck is that it can close the windpipe, the victim may not be able to breath. If the speed and the gauge is thick enough... the external injury may not appear that bad and it may not lacerate

Extremely good point.

And I don't recall the often sited defence of 'I was joking' working very well for any of the 'facebook riot organisers'.

Or indeed for Paul Chambers.

Then again, I wonder if anyone has actually formally protested that they felt menaced because of the tripe that Matthew Parris writes.
