One report I heard said the rickshaw was 25 times heavier than a normal road bike. If the average bike is 10Kg then the rickshaw is 250Kg.

That must be with two people in the back surely?

It must be. A Maximus has a total payload of 250kg. In pedicab form, one weighs 85kg, and they will carry a rider and up to three people (if the people are thin enough to fit in the seat, two is more normal.)

A Maximus isn't build to be especially lightweight, but having seen the rickshaw he's riding, and the size of the forks, I'd guess his could be heavier than a Maximus, and possibly over engineered - Maximi are pretty tough!

Annoyingly, a quick google doesn't tell me anything about the brand of rickshaw - it looks like some of the ones I saw this week in London.

However he was unable to start this morning "because his support team had to have 10 hours rest". He is doing 14 hours a day on a bike in pain and they can't start unless they have enough sleep (the poor souls).

Words fail me. (Well they don't, I could go on for ages, but I won't bore you).

Ah, the EU Working Hours directive . They could have signed an opt out before hand, but no one probably thought about it.

If one of those support team is going to be driving, would you rather they were up and on the road after only a couple of hours of sleep? It's not going to do Matt much good if one of his own team ploughs into the back of him because they've nodded off....

I've just seen him pass through Histon just north of Cambridge. I took a detour on my way home on the off chance. He looked completely shattered but still managed a cheery 'thanks mate' when I handed one of his team some cash. Loads of folk were out to greet him so hopefully he'll get close to raising £1m

Only one of them can drive then?
