After much consideration I've just bought two new CXP33 rims.

Now although these are supposed to be great rims, the first thing I noticed was how poor the drilling was - every spoke hole is very rough with sharp metal edges - they don't have eyelets to cover this. For expensive rims, this is quite poor. As both rims are the same, I guess this is standard for these rims?

Any views from other CXP33 owners?

not possible to fit eyelets on those rims, due to the shape. Just run a warding file throug the holes if it bothers you..

Right for the price, I suspect. Extra finishing costs extra wonga and there's no practical benefit in finishing those surfaces when they will be fitted with spoke nipples anyway...

it's the 'outside' surface that is rough so if you cleaned the rims with a rag it would get ripped up! The rims were £52 each (list price) so I was expecting a better finish - no major problem though but I've seen much cheaper rims with a better finish. I guess the aero profile makes it harder to get a clean finish.

I'd have expected them to be eyeletted though. My older CXP22s are.

I'm not concerned that they don't have eyelets. I've seen other (much cheaper) rims without eyelets that have nice cleanly drill holes so why mavic have done such a rough job I don't know.

It's quite funny, as I went away from the Mavic brand a few years ago becasue I felt the quality of their products had declined, but then had no luck with other brands that I'd tried, so thought I'd return to Mavic. So it appears that although Mavic might be going down hill, they are probably still better than many of the alternatives.

so I contacted the online shop and the Mavic importer about this issue, and both said to return rims for inspection, so that's what I've done as I wasn't really happy with them the way they were. Hopefully, they can supply better condition rims but if not I will hopefully be able to cancel the order and perhaps buy something like Open pros instead

They have an eyelets of sorts - they don't wrap onto the rim like some, and are internal, with cut-outs to reduce weight. Bit rough finished on the inside, but they are my rims of choice. I run them on my best bike and commuter. Easy to build and make very strong but light rims.

Open Pro's have an obvious eyelet, but the rim profile doesn't allow that on the CXP 33's
