You should read her work, she is very good. My father-in-law always thought the greatest loss in life was to miss a great author.

You should read her work, she is very good. My father-in-law always though the greatest loss in life was to miss a great author.

She is a very moving writer. It's also more than a little shocking that, in human terms, the stuff she grew up with was so recent, like a parent who lived through WW2. I could never identify with her evangelical side but it was part and parcel of her life.

An old partner of mine once asked her to give her autograph when she was over in the UK. At a loss for a sufrace to rest the paper on, she suggested that Maya used her back as a support and promptly got told never to bend her back for anyone.
