Two years ago I was prescribed Amlodopine for high blood pressure. Sure enough it got my BP down but after several months of being on it I just did`nt feel right, I did`nt know the cause at the time. I explained this to the pharmacist at the doctors (you never speak to a doctor) and they put me onto a different medication, I can`t remember which one. Sure enough I was`nt too bad to start with but after a few months the same thing started to happen. That feeling of tiredness, aches etc. I stopped taking that med and after a week I was feeling better. Anyway, I went back to the doctor`s again, another chat with the pharmacist and she then put me on Losartan.
I was more hopeful with Losartan as my wife takes it and has been for many years. Anyway, slowly the symptoms of aching and lethargy came back and also with a new side effect, severe itching of my lower legs and ankles. I was just on a 25mg dose of Losartan. Back in June I stopped taking the med and within the week the symptoms started to disappear. I could enjoy my cycling again as I did`nt have the aches in my muscles. The itching went. I did`nt tell the quacks until I had my yearly check up this month. My BP is not that bad, it swings but nothing unduly high.
When I think back now, my late father was on Losartan 100mg and he was always complaining about aches and pains and of course we put things down to old age. It is as if old age is the cause of these aches and pains or we say it is the weather or whatever. my dad may have lived to 97 but I am sure he would have appreciated not having so many pains.
One thing is for certain I am not going back onto the BP tablets. I feel the best I have for 2 years and I just keep an eye on my BP. If the BP rises I cycle harder !
Edit I forgot to mention the light headedness and dizzyness, especially after a ride. I think it a case the meds were bringing the BP down too much
