From 1978 and the CPS believes it has enough evidence. Good luck with that, hopefully they have diary entries at the time or something similar, as I can’t remember what i was doing last year let alone 48 years ago.
I wonder how they will pick a jury. It must be impossible to find 12 people who don’t know who he is.
I suspect the defence will just run a case of you prove it happened, we say it didn’t.

Every defence in history is basically that - it's the prosecution's job to convince the jury of the defendant's guilt beyond reasonable doubt, not the defence's to prove innocence.
That said, a case like this doesn't even get to court unless the CPS believes that there's a realistic prospect of a conviction and that the prosecution is in the public interest.
