I'm a spritely 43ish and spent a lot of time in the cinema as a kid, say 76 onwards... I have never heard the NA played before or after a film.

I don't remember the national Anthem being played in the cinema after the 60's, I was in the Navy in the late 60's and always tried to leave before it was played.

In fact my mate was on it at Ritzy's in Bolton, (class), 'singing in the shower' to Chesney Hawkes, I am the On and Only! Still got a VHS somewhere with it on, but nothing to play it on!

I just watched a documentary about the Falklands war. Kids of 17 and 18 were included in the dead - pretty shocking to think of that really. At least if you are 22 or 23 when you join the forces, you should have some idea of what you are letting yourself in for, but still in your teens ...?

I suppose if you get the vote at 18, then you have to be able to do everything else at 18, but I think that 16 or 17 is way too young.

I think that was the documentary that I caught the end of the other night. At 16-17 most people are little more than children and most have no idea what they are letting themselves in for. My problem was I was no more than a child and I couldn't handle the discipline, hence my early departure. Any death on the battlefield is a waste of a life.

I remember the anthem being played at "close down" on BBC, mostly after a "saucy" Hammer movie...

But in my "drinking youth" the Hitman and Her was the only programme still on when staggering home from the pub which did not involve a crownd of dullfeckers on Ch4 sitting around and talking crap (cannae remember the name of the programme - ?" And the Hitman and Her was truly shite, and reinforced just how shite "nighclubs" around the country were.

Thankfully I had watched Max Headroom before heading out and also taped it, so could re-watch it.

For those who like it.It's a brill life.I was in Hospital for thirteen night recently.Fourguys in a bay.One guy never spoke to any of us for the first two days.Very quiet.I was the last one admitted.the other two guys quite outgoing.So first chance i had alone with him.i introduced myself,got him talking General stuff,where from What did he do -worked in a wharehouse.What had he done before.Navy,then he started talking17-18 years old and visiting the West Indies.Boy did he talk.I think he was enjoying himself telling me.Why did he leave ,he got married,and the wharehose job was the only thing he could get.Finished off he hated it.I think he missed the Navy and his mates.
