Once or twice a week I have to do this:

06:15 Alarm
06:25 Leave the house
06:35 Bus from Perth bus station
06:45 Change at Perth Broxden
08:00 (+/- 10 mins) Arrive at Glasgow bus station
08:05 Unlock bike at Queen Street station, cycle 11 miles uphill to East Kilbride
08:50 Arrive at office for shower
09:00 Sit at desk

And on different evenings I do it in reverse (not literally).

With snow and a headwind I didn’t get in until 9.20 this morning. It’s not been fun since New Year because of some mechanical failures which means I don’t really trust my bike any more, and I’m starting to begrudge spending 2+ hours each weekend sorting it out.

My wife teaches in Perth because there are very few teaching jobs coming up where we actually live, so for the near future it’s just got to be done or else I'd only see her at weekends.

Is this a private 'woe is me' begging thread or can anyone join in?

Today
got up at 4.00am
watched the news on ceefax or what ever it's called now
had shower
cup of tea while looking at the internet
more tea and coffee
12 noon
apple and a cup of tea
went out for a ride walk 3.5 miles
cup of tea with a mince pie
now here doing this
life is such a bore

I did 90 minutes each way on a bus to Edinburgh for 2 years, so the novelty has worn off, although at least the current bus actually moves at more than 10mph for the last part of the journey. And I'm 6ft5 so the headrests are normally down near my shoulders.

The other journeys are either 90 minutes driving to/from Perth, or 60 minutes cycling back to the flat in Glasgow.

I think with any journey it's the unexpected bits that put a dampener on things - so traffic in places where it's not normally, or bits falling off your bike, or tube patches failing tend to make it less enjoyable. Will have a stern talk with my bike at the weekend...

Being tall on public transport is henious. I'm only just over 6ft and I really hate buses, I won't even travel on trains if they are the modern type. I thought I hated the three hours a day I lost sitting on a train to London and back until I stopped doing it.

Train to Glasgow would likely be quicker, if someone else is paying...
