Merino cycling socks v Normal wool socks

while looking though a few sites I was struck by the price of wool cycling socks. Are they really so much better than ordinary wool socks (three pairs for a tenner at m&S) that the mark up can be justified?

If the wool content is a decent %, then probably not.. get the m&S.
A lot of nonsense talked about merino... personally I find it as itchy as lambswool next to the skin, therefore uncomfortable to wear.... and with whole lot of pricetag as well.
Wool of any nature is always going to have heat retaining properties.
