Meteor last night

Stood on the platform at Solihull about quarter to six last night saw a meteor trail across the sky with bits breaking off it, really impressive. Probably only lasted for 3 or 4 seconds, and i'm pretty sure i was the only one on the platform who noticed it.
Saw it described on the news today as a "fireball" that was visible from across the UK! :

Nah! Missed that!

I thought I caught a glimpse of a shooting star on the night ride to Whitby two months back, but it was too quick to be sure.

That was a pilot ship, next thing these big walking machines will come out of the ground.......boom boom...... oh, too much telly.....



Would have liked to see it - likely to get some meteor showers over the next few days actually, but probably not as good as that.

Some years ago I saw one like this in daylight! Bizarre, a big bright spark shooting across the Suffolk skies with pieces breaking off. I seem to recall that Rezillo saw it too.

Didn't see yours upsidedown, but did see the most spectacular one maybe 5 years ago. Bright, low, lasted for a good few seconds, right over the top of me. It seemed massive...made my ride that did.

I saw it as I was cycling home. I initially thought it was a firework but the angles were all wrong. It was very impressive.

Well, I missed it but I'm not really bitter, I've seen plenty meteors ! Seeing as my 'dark side' involves me sitting in a garden chair for hours outside at night (not this time of year! ) that's when I get my chance, meteors are surprisingly common if you're in a dark place with clear skies.

As to this one, there are several reports from amongst the astros, the brightest mention of it says it was -5 which puts it brighter than Venus. Quite a biggie! Ah well, there'll be others...

I didn't see that one but saw a big one about a month ago, I thought it might have been a firework but it weren't.
I thought it was interesting in the article that a fist sized lump creates such a big effect, I'd have guessed at them being bigger.

There was one a few years ago that was the biggest I've seen and I went home to check the news to see if Rochdale had been wiped out as it looked like it was heading straight for it.

They've been over France as well.
Sometimes I wonder if these particularly bright meteors are bits of space junk re-entering, aluminium, titanium and other metals often burn very brightly.
