Cracking a solo.
I wonder if I could have a little advice please, I have Mavic Aksium Race wheels, my tyres are currently Kenda Kriterium 700 x 25c. The tyres are shockingly bad to be honest (they came with the bike) they're looking tatty already and the punctures are far too regular for my liking, so I'm looking at upgrading.
I've read good things about the Michelin Krylion Carbon but I'm a little confused with the sizing, the best price seems to be from chainreactioncycles but they have the size listed as 700 x 20c, would this be too small for my rims, would I need to stick to a 25c or could I drop down, highonbikes have the 23c listed for what seems like a good price.
Thanks in advance

I've recently fitted some krylion carbons and they are very nice. I wouldn't go down as far as 20c, but the 25c ones I have are quite big for 25s (They are about the same size as my old and rather worn 28mm conti sport contacts they replaced) so I would be happy to go for the 23s

Check the Mavic site for min/ max tyre sizes.
A colleague and I bought a pair of fulcrum racing 7 for £99 a set and I bought 23 Krylion Carbon and he bought 20's then read the Fulcrum blurb once delivered - minimum 23mm tyres!
The MKC tyres are blooming brill and done lots a hard miles with only one visit from the P fairy.

I think they are flogging off the 20s because nobody wants them! They do come in 23C and 25C sizes too. If you spend at least £35, Ribble Cycles do them for £23 each for the dark grey ones in 23C size.

I used Krylions for several years and think they are a good tyre. I actually liked the 25s but switched to 23s because the bigger tyres didn't fit under my Crud Road Racer mudguards [See signature link below for a review of my Cruds]. I'm a bit skint these days so I tried the much cheaper Lithions and have been getting on okay with those. It remains to be seen if they last as long as the Krylions used to though.

How low you can go is dependent on your internal rim width, Sheldon does a good (if cautious) piece. OT I wouldn't go down to 20mm; different brand of tyres but I suffered quite a bit of pinch p'tures with 22mm tyres, I've had hardly any with 23,24 & 25mm tyres. As to Mitch Krylions I've had them now for 1000p'ture free miles (23mm) and have been very pleased with the grip in that time.

Thank you for the replies everybody
I've ordered the 23s this morning, I had looked for the range of sizes the rims would accept but didn't think of looking on the Mavic website , it's 19 to 32 if anybody is interested. Didn't really want to drop to a 20 think a 23 will do me just fine.
Delivery is due tomorrow so I can look forward to a huge increase in average speed and no more flats, can't wait

Krylions I'll be trying next. Use Pro Race on two of the road bikes and have been using the cheaper Lithion on my commuting bike. The Lithions are great, but they aren't that hard wearing. They have been very puncture resistant for such a light tyre.

Krylions have been discontinued and replaced by the pro 4 endurance tyres, which happen to be at the start of season prices of £36 so still worth ferreting out the Krylions (Parkers list them as clearance only but have stock, wiggle only have 23s in a single colour etc etc)

I've been using 700*23C Krylions on my bike. Very nice tyres that haven't punctured yet, even after pulling shards of glass out of the middle.

On seeing your topic post I have now ordered some new ones in 20C size, with a grey stripe to suit the Khamsin's I'm buying.

I will use the 20C's on the Khamsin's in the summer, and the 23C's on the Fulcrum's in the winter.
