The other day I ordered a copy of Office 2010 Home & Student from a third party seller on Amazon. It arrived today and I installed it on the first PC (it is licensed for 3), all went well but it would not activate on line saying that the product key was not valid. I tried activation over the phone but was unsucessful, the automated service informed me that I may be the victim of software piracy!
Strangely the seller included a 'Bonus unregistered product key' on a seperate piece of paper, which I at first thought was indeed a 'bonus', now I'm not so sure.
I've Emailed the seller , awaiting a response.

Mark.

Mark,

Amazon will provide some form of protection on this kind of thing. Get in touch with their customer services. They will be very upset if sellers are offering illegal, counterfeit goods on their site. If you've bought in good faith through their website and the product is fake, I'm sure they'll either follow up with the vendor or refund you.

Alternatively, if you paid by credit card, the credit card firm may offer protection

OS is Windows 7.
Cost of office was cheapest on Amazon (about £80), but only by a couple of quid so it's not as though I was paying a ridiculously low price.
I've had a look at Amazon's policies and I think I'll be covered by their guarantee.

Is it all hologramed up on the packet and the disc as you would expect?

I got an XP os some time back in a similar way from 3rd party and some version of office too Both have been fine. However at that time it was not a new OS or version of office so seller could have upgraded.

I have a hologramed DVD but after feeling a little suspicious I notice that there is a bit of an air bubble under a bit of it. Maybe innocent, maybe not!

Sounds like you've been done by some cheeky sod selling already-registered copies of Office on Amazon. If it were Ebay I'd not be surprised, but through Amazon marketplace?!? Report the seller to Amazon - and Microsoft - immediately. They'll deal with this swiftly.

After having Windows Genuine Advantage incorrectly report my copy of XP as pirated a couple of years ago (Microsoft did eventually concede that it was a problem with their system, not mine), I have no faith in any of this stuff anymore. If it says it 'may be pirated', then there is also a chance that it is not at all.

Talk to Microsoft first and they should tell you which procedures to follow, once they have confirmed the legitamacy of the product either way. It may be that someone has used your registration code, leaving you with a genuine article, in which case Microsoft can sort it out easily.

Don't be too sure - recently I was looking for some headphones and found a site - fakeheadphones.com - with experience of fake headphones from amazon direct nevermind amazon marketplace.
