Today I took some elderly friends to buy a new computer. Basically he thinks he is going to write a book on it but in reality it will be used for a little word processing, some basic spreadsheet use, an internet search once in a blue moon and for doing their grocery shopping once a week when I go round.
The salesman persuaded them to buy a
Microsoft Surface 3, Intel Atom, 4GB RAM, Windows 10, 10.8", 128GB at £499
saying the price tag for the computer at £419 was 'the model below' implying it had a smaller, 8" screen whereas it is this model:
Microsoft Surface 3, Intel Atom, 2GB RAM, Windows 8.1, 10.8", 64GB
Now the cheaper machine comes with a 1 year free subscription to Microsoft 365,which will keep them in their comfort zone and a free upgrade to Windows 10.
I don't mind doing the upgrade since I will be heavily customising the computer to make it as idiot proof as possible.
Am I right in thinking that for their needs 2GB of RAM and 64GB is plenty? Or am I missing something and the extra £80 is worth spending?
