Which often costs more than the applicance itself. I'm all for "make do and mend" and dislike the "throw it away 'cos it's obsolete" mindset, but I dunno sometimes it's just best to get a new one.

Actually, I'm not sure that makes sense even to me now I read it back, but at least with a microwave you can do what that bloke did on Bang Goes the Theory the other week and use it to power a model helicopter.

Indeed. Dependent upon your method of payment, if you use credit card, you may find this allows you an extended warranty at no extra cost - did with mine.

Seeing Waffleycat's link in her post reminded me about the interior of the microwave ovens. Some models used to have enamel (?) interiors, or do they all have the, much more long-lasting and cleanable, stainless steel interior?
