Up until today I have just cycled with a good quality base layer and my Gore Windstopper top when the weather has been this cold. However, the biting wind has meant that I haven't found this sufficient to keep me warm. So today I put on a lightweight Trespass top as a mid layer and this certainly helped.
So, any recommendations out there for a cycling specific lightweight mid layer. Many thanks.

A cycling jersey over the baselayer, although if the Trespass top does the job, do you need to buy anything else?

Thanks for that. All my lightweight cycling jerseys are packed away with my spring/summer clothing in the loft. At this rate they may still be there in June. I'll go and have a look later and see if there is anything lightweight enough. As far as the Trespass is concerned, I found that it made me feel 'clammy' when worn over the base layer.

as above - more tops, the more layers the better (within reason obviously)

I went out on sunday with a base layer, two tops and a pocket rocket to stop the wind - only my feet got cold
