I currently experiencing knee pain, when keeping my legs straight for long periods or putting any weight against my knees. This has been going on for around 6 weeks.

I am trying to work out why i am having issues and have recently seen a specialist, having a MRI scan (results were ok). I am seeing the specialist again to discuss the results and wanted to confirm if this is potentially caused by cycling.

Has anyone else experienced problems with their knees after say 50miles weekly of cycling and if so, why?

cheers all

I have some cycle related pain in my R knee. An MRI showed the inflamation but no 'trauma' as such. The specialist just said that he couldn't offer any help and that he hoped my pain wasn't sufficient to put me off cycling.

I just fiddled ad nauseam with my cleats, saddle etc., until I got to a position where the discomfort was minimal.

Pay attention to every little detail. For instance, last winter I was spinning hard on my turbo and noticed a little 'lift' of my foot within my R shoe. I cut a very thin insole out of a soap box and put it under the insole that was already in the shoe - it actually made a significant difference!! Spinning on a turbo is a good way to see if there is anything odd about the way you pedal as you can concentrate on form rather than the road/traffic.

Good luck.
