He wrote many of the Monkees tunes.

The Monkees always remind me of summer holidays at The White Lodge Hotel in Blackpool, in the 1960's.

Interestingly his mother invented liquid paper leaving him a fortune giving little desire to join with the band on their reunion tours.

Tippex, as mentioned above, but the man himself dreamed up, patented and sold the intellectual property that became MTV. He called it 'Popclips'.
