I'm just back from Rome. Had a great time there, a mix of culture and gelato - mainly gelato.

Rotterdam might be worth a look. The airport is tiny, so you're off the plane and on other side in 15/20mins and then it's a short taxi or bus ride to the centre. You'd need to get a guide book as it's not the sort of place you can really just wander around.

Antwerp would prolly be my vote for a weekend though.

Milans good for a weekend, walk from the castle to the duomo/galleria. I think you can go up the duomo, various museums, the train station is a good shout if you like architecture. Plenty of swanky restaurants.

Milan is really nice, went in May, plenty of swanky stuff. You can walk around the roof of The Duomo which gives you a good view of the city.

Nope. It's basically the Manchester of Italy - very industrial.

Here's a photo of Manchester taken the other day.

I love Rome - one of my favourite cities.

Plus I have the advantage of being able to stay in the Vatican, which makes getting around a lot easier.
I'm envious. Being able to stay at the Vatican and then exploring the city on foot would be fabulous. Rome is a great city for getting about on foot.
