On the plus side, Pog may not bother with the MSR again, leaving it available for others..
... like MVDP?
If Pogacar isn't there to knock him off his bike, how else can he be beat?

After yesterday's race he's won more than half the monuments he's contested (11/21). Unsurprisingly no-one else comes close to this strike rate.Equal 2nd in terms of monument wins now (on 11 with de Vlaeminck). You'd be a brave man to bet against him adding Liege and Lombardia to that list, at least.

Merckx's ratio is 36% (19/53). Between his first and last participations he started all bar 6 - more research needed to find out how many of these were by choice.
MvdP unable to hold bars properly on final climb having been caught up in the Pogi crash
Ouch!
You're being a bit selective.Since the 2020 edition of MSR, he's never finished lower than 5th in a monument he's finished. In that time, 5/5 in Lombardia. 3/3 in Liege. 2/3 in Flanders.
Am I? 2019 he was a neopro, so we can probably discount that year. Van der Poel has been similarly impressive. Over the same period, he's never been outside of the top 10 in a single monument. Pogacar has won 55% of the monuments he's finished. MvdP 36%. I don't think we've ever seen these kinds of ratios before. You're being a bit selective.
It seems I may have been a bit harsh: Christen crashed off-screen and has broken his collarbone. The captions were a bit misleading. No, but Jan Christen has reached his finish and stepped off.

Turns out that the rear triangle of Pog's frame was broken in the crash. Lucky he's not got thighs like Förstemann. Also fortuitously, he was running 1 by and he might otherwise have trashed his left shifter. Sounds like he had to do some resetting to get his rear derailleur to work too.
I reckon this is going to be one of those mythical rides that, in a few years time, will be totally different in reality to how people describe it.
"He crashed on the cipressa and had to chase for 15km solo with a broken fibea and only 1 wheel"
... in the snow.
And ripped a wheel off a pizza-barrow to replace his.
