can anybody recc a good mileage counter i can fit to my bike ,,i have a cheap comp fitted and i have to remove the battery to switch it on ,and then put it back in??this of course resets the milage iv done back to zero ,,should i just buy a better comp??

If you are only wanting a record of mileage I think almost any computer will do but if you go too cheap you are better of with wired, cheap wireless ones are prone to interference. Also most computers will be but check before you buy that they have a resettable OD, so when you replace the battery you can reset your OD to X,XXX rather than zero.

If you've already got and carry a smartphone there are free apps that will do it for you using the phone's gps system, such as Sportstracker, Endomondo, etc.

iv got an iphone 4s ,and its on me constantly,,will this work ,,iv heard these need a clear view of the sky and are not as good as a dedicated comp on the bike ,,,is using my phone a realistic option

iv got a cheap comp but every time i have to reset it it goes back to 0000 as yo say ,,i dont need anything fancy ,,,prob if its a comp just time ,,speed and total distance stuff ,,pretty basic functions ,,i found this on ebay ,,any thoughts

Cateye generally do good computers so I think you'll probably be getting a good one but you might want to ask the seller or see if the manual is on the cateye web site to see if it has a resettable odo, it probably does

I don't know about iphone but my android phone works well with these apps, i don't tend to ride in heavily built up areas though so not sure about satellite signal in that kind of area but out of town it works fine.

Even a Wilkinsons/Asda job allows you to reset the trip without loosing the total mileage and other settings. In fact almost any bike computer will as long as it has a trip function. Having said that very cheap junk packs in when it gets wet etc. Go wired if you are really trying to save money. Can also recommmend the Velo.
