I really do hope they continue to let him lead the party right up to the next election.

He'll survive. Labour never had the killer instinct for under-performing leaders that the Tories have. Look at how long Michael Foot bumbled on and the "will they won't they" over Gordon Brown. They all grumbled about Gordon but as soon as someone got the knives out they all circled round to protect him. Exit stage left Geoff Hoon and Patricia Hewitt.

He fits in fine - labour are much more suited to opposition and carping from the benches, which is where they'll be for a long time. The responsibility of government is too much for Labour whereas the Tories really want the power, doesn't mean they're any good mind. Doomed.

Career politician, oxbridge background, manicured, well versed in blandola politic-speak, designed to appeal to inoffensive mediocrity just like the rest of them- the odd ones like Dennis Skinner and Nigel Farage excepted.
Yes, that's exactly the problem. He isn't any better or worse than the equivalent in the other parties, because apart from minor differences in views they are all interchangeable.

Someone like Dennis Skinner would have no chance of getting elected these days, more's the pity.
