Shortly on BBC Radio 2 Jeremey Vine interviews a minicab boss about his attitude to cyclists. He didn't mention the name and I'm wondering if it's the guy from AL.

Some people just don't know when to shut up?
Better the world thinks you're an idiot, than you open your mouth and prove it?

The guy representing cyclists just missed an excellent chance to shoot down the "cyclists don't pay road tax" argument!

Tatchell - ".. they should make cycle helmets compulsory as they done in Australia.."
Vine - "Any evidence it saved someone's life?"

WHY were they all discussing ROAD TAX!!!!

Yes; and neither JV or the Peter Tatchell bloke, who was supposed to be representing cyclists, took the opportunity to shoot it down in flames. Exactly why I don't normally listen to Vine; he always seems to manage to miss important points and concentrates on irrelevant nonsense.

Ha ha ha.... I've never actively listened to Radio 2 before.

J Vine reminded me slightly of that French & Saunders mickey-take of Morning TV many years ago. Not really my thing. Like TalkSport with the addition of a Third in Applied Media Studies from the University of Nowhere You've Heard Of... or similar.

Why Peter Tatchell to put the cycling case? Did he just happen to be in the studio? He didn't really hit any nails on the head with anything even resembling a hammer. It was all quite polite, although the callers selected were slightly odd.

Bizarrely, at the death Tatchell proposed mandatory helmet-wearing, citing Australia as a place where it works... Ha ha ha... You should adopt the laws of the country I left to dodge the draft. But only the ones I agree with... or something.

maybe they're going to have a phone in about gay rights and will have the CTC bloke on that?
Glad I avoid jeremy vine's phone ins , they have a habit of *really* winding me up..., I think his brother would be a far better host !

So from the posts made here, I get the impression that this minicab driver must now be grinning from ear to ear as not once were the dangers posed by them to cyclists mentioned? What was the point of having a minicab driver/buisness owner on this phone in? What group can they get on next to slate cyclists?

Often I think cyclists themselves or groups, bodies, that claim to represent us don't have sufficient advocacy skills to make an adequate and convincing case for or to defend cycling/cyclists. Perhaps many cyclists are just not able to articulate the relevant issues?
