We're confusing each other here. No, I ride the biggest frame available off the peg and although I have comparatively short legs, I have far more seatpost showing. I don't know the Perry frame size, but it won't be the largest.

Back to the OP. Ditch the compact chainset and get a proper 53/39. Simples.
