Mineral brake oil - does anyone bother changing it regularly?

I understand the need to replace DOT fluid periodically as it's hygroscopic so over time it absorbs water and becomes slightly compressible - which both reduces feel and lowers boiling point; risking fade under extreme circumstances.

Conversly mineral oil and water are imiscible so shouldn't suffer the same fate; and while it's been a while the mineral-oil-based 105 hydro discs on my Genesis still seem to work as effectively as they did when it was purchased 5yrs ago..

Should I be changing the oil regularly?

Never bothered, myself.

I've never done it. The hybrid (Tektro brakes) is 6 years old now and still brakes well though it's never been quite as keen as some of my other bikes with Shimano. I've got a bleed kit and spare fluid and I'm planning to do it at some point but haven't got round to it.

Never bothered to do it with cars or motorcycles. I'll bet most vehicles reach end of life with the original factory fluid still in them.

Yes. Its not as hygroscopic as DOT fluid but it can go south eventually. Its so inexpensive it seems daft not to spend 20 minutes every 3 or 4 years on it.

Aye - I'm not averse to maintenance if necessary but equally hate waste and am always struggling for time to get things done so happy to avoid unnecessary chores..

I suppose I ought to get some basic hydro brake tools in the bank anyway as sooner or later I'll need them for some reason and I don't want to get caught with my pants down!
