(Well, I convinced myself of that in 1983).

I had occaision (back in my youth) to have to hurry  from North London to Scratch Wood services on the M1. 3 of us in the above Allegro, and another 6 bodies in a Ford Transit. We kept together until hitting the M1, then the Transit pulled away from us at an alarming rate. We ended up arriving too late to be of any help to any one, except giving the 6 Transit occupants a good laugh at our lack of top speed. This was later made up for by spending a week riding around in a manual 3.5 litre V8 S Rover. Now that proper shifted, but at 8 miles to the gallon, you would expect it to.

How did this end up as an Austin respect/disrespect thread
Its supposed to be about all those B&%s&%ds we have to spend most of our waking life with. Smokers who think they are entitled to twice as many breaks as non smokers, they are the buggers that get up my nose, no pun intended. I've started taking 'fresh air breaks'.

I learnt to drive in a Metro. Only car I could be certain of pressing two pedals at once in.
And the fun of being sat there in my driving test and having to tell the instructor I was having trouble finding reverse, as I was too used to my Dad's Talbot Solara. He just said 'fair enough' and I passed.

And the new Mini is a BMW, and BMW are rip off artists, and the Countryman courtesy car felt bigger than my 3 series, and I'm getting rid of the 3 series as soon as possible. Best car I've ever driven, worst car I've ever owned.

...What did I forget to say? Oh yes... "Grrrrrrrr!!!"
