For the past year I have been watching the progress of the cafe being built as I've cycled up the gorge on a weekly basis, normally stopping at Costa next door. Well after your post, I popped into the Gorge Cafe this morning, but MiniUser76 had yet to start his shift. However, the owners (really friendly family) said he is a smashing lad and there are really lucky to have had him come in looking for work.
Anyway, good for MiniUser76 and although he wasn't there, I even left him a tip

Under 16? Hence only 5 hours a day, and minimum wage of £3.72 between 16 and 17.... there is no minimum under 16.

My middle child is currently working in a care home, and is benefiting from the experience, though having to learn to deal with the occasional death of one of the residents that they have got to know and like.

I think they like to know that it's their money, that they have earned and can choose how to spend or save up for a big item.
