Noticed that CRC, Wiggle and Evans now all have a £10 (ish) minimum spend for free delivery, I get that- I did feel cheeky ordering some discount stuff for 99p and getting it delivered for free, not a problem.

However I resent spending lots of money and still paying- I ordered from Decathlon today, for free delivery I would have to spend £70 :O , a site my wife loves is a similar £75 minimum, just takes the mick, I spend over a days wages on stuff at your site and pay the privilege of you sending it to me. Nearest Decathlon is 150+ miles away so didn't have a choice if I wanted to buy their stuff, and having basketed £30 worth, I have to pay. humph.

Rant over.

I always opt for free delivery wherever I can, but if I can't then I reluctantly pay the charges.
The cost of postage these days is crazy but the companies do get bulk discounts etc.
Ah well...

Evans is free to a store

Minimum parcel post is about £3, you can't really expect a retailer to cover that on an under £10 order. I was 10p under from Wiggle recently, bought some £2 lube for the free delivery

You could support your LBS and buy/order from them ;)

This is it really, there's no such thing as free, everything has to be paid for somewhere along the line.

You are not one of those people who do not understand margins are you? As somebody who owns and runs a mail order business I do.

Sadly Evans is 150+ miles away as well.
I was saying I perfectly understand the £10 rule, that's fair enough- I don't mind them having a minimum, just think £70 was excessive.
That's true- unfortunately they don't have the same sale price potential!

No I don't but I'm sure there is very little wriggle room for those that are- but if CRC/ Evans/ Wiggle can do it Decathlon can match that policy surely? (I wasn't expecting a smaller/ more independent retailer to give me free delivery on a £10 spend)

You have a point, however you are paying for a product that you would otherwise have to collect, which takes time and money.

It just comes down to competition at the end of the day. If you don't like it buy elsewhere.

As Screenman says, it's about margins. Companies have had to control prices to remain afloat in a difficult economy, and in many cases margins are 3-4%. That means on a £10 item, they are making 30-40p - they can't then spend £3 to deliver it to you.

What's the relevance of your earnings level in this situation?

It's a b'twin garment which really narrows it down

Just that £70 minimum spend is an awful lot of money and not a light purchase.

At the end of the day though I wanted their product so paid the money.

It might be a lot to you, but understanding margins is what you sometimes need to do. When I buy mail order I do not think of the postage as being anything other than part of the whole cost.

As for your daily wages, well you could do with a change of career if you are not happy with it.
