I realise this may be contentious and that police officers may make up a significant number of forum members, but what exactly do the police do these days apart from processing speeding fines? There are so many cases reported recently of offences being reported which result in absolutely no reaction from the boys in blue that there really must be more than tabloid headlines at work.

Fairly recently, in a village not too far away from Attrick Towers, a householder managed to detain a scumbag who had broken into his house. The police turned up the day after! The householder meantime had no option other than to release said scumbag. It seems no further action has been taken. There are a miriad of anecdotes describing similar situations across the country which are reported in the media which apparently are allowed to slip into history without so much as an explanation from either our politicians or our chief constables.

Meanwhile, when was the last time you saw a police patrol on our streets? The perennial excuse of paperwork keeping them from policing is wearing a little thin.

And another thing (he ranted), I was stopped at a police road block recently due to an accident closing the road. Fair enough, I have no problem with that. Being in a strange area, I asked the copper which way I should head to get to my destination. The reply was, "I don't give a f""k, but you are not going through here". Is this really what our police precept pays for?

Indeed. But allow me the indulgence of having one outstanding complaint at a time, please. Only so much time and complaining energy a chap has.

its one thing to say "i don't know" but quite another to swear and say they don't care

I complained (yesterday and today, in fact) to local Plod, over the phone and in writing, about their lack of action on an earlier reported incident. Namely, this one:

View: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx4GZIWbMtI

Plod had the footage, which in its un you-tubed version is sufficient to make out the taxi company, plate number, taxi ID, in fact everything required to identify this person. They promised, when I reported it, to do so, and to have words with him. I phoned a week later, a fortnight later... And then yesterday, and there is no record of said words having been had. My written and verbal complaints to local plod about this contain info on what specific law this guy broke, and what the CPS advice is on that law (thanks to this forum!).

So I'm in the middle of chasing that one at the moment; like I said, have a heart, give a chap a chance to sort out one complaint at a time

It is a criminal offence for a driver not to supply insurance details on request. Report it to the police.

If the driver does not believe there has been damage done, is it actually a criminal offense to refuse to provide such details?

IIRC, the driver does not have to supply his insurance details to you (as you were not injured). No harm in asking though, but you are entitled to ask for his name and contact details etc if damage was done to your bike.
