Since I work from home (and also was abroad with work for ALL the snowy bits of this winter) I have not been out as much as you hard core commuters.

I do cycle to my Saturday swim session when I can, which is a 45km round trip leaving at 0745. Today was minus 4 when I left. I have got the clothing pretty much exactly right and I loved it, but not sure if doing that every morning would be as much fun. Having said that, it's got to be better than sitting in a traffic jam

That is cold...and probably the reason I do not check the temperature before getting on the bike in the morning, or I wouldn't ever ride to work!

Warm gloves and a windproof and I feel plenty toasty once moving, so I put it to the back of my mind.

Its been nice and sunny today and nowhere near as cold here, quite mild.

But not that mild that it's a good idea to put all your shopping in your pannier before realising your gloves are at the bottom, and thinking "sod it, it's mild, it'll be OK"

My fingers were an interesting shade of blue

I just use the local weather station. Normally the weather forecast exaggerates how low it'll get or else is just referring to somewhere out in the sticks where it'll be 2 or 3C lower.

I have done a few -1 or -2 commutes, below that i'm worried about the icey roads, will be great to ride without all these layers in a few weeks.
Also warmer air = faster rides:smile:

Minus thirteen was the coldest it got in Jan according to a colleagues car mounted temperature measuring device.

I can get some idea as to the temperature outside from it. Useful when deciding how many layers I need, especially for the longer Sunday runs. Its not been to bad recently, somewhere around freezing most mornings, but I have seen as low as minus eight or nine on some mornings as I am about to leave for work.

Added to favorites.

Minus 15 on two days - full thermal kit on, with waterproofs on top - off road through the thick stuff, but I hardly sweated, it was that cold.

I was out at 5am but I guess it wasn't as cold as that here.
