Does anyone else do this.....especially at this time of year, I know I do!

I get up at 5:30am, and, as you do, go for a 'tinkle' and always check the weather by looking opening the window - after I've emptied my bladder!. Then I go downstairs, and in my shorts open the front door for a further enquiry - I then base my clothing on those 2 checks. I do all my other checks and get dressed.

So how come I always get it wrong - I cycle 12 miles each way, but either find myself too cold, or sweating all the way - then one of the other lads at work will say 'are you not sweating in al of that!?', or, "I bet you're freezing aren't you?".

Grrrrrrr - does my head in! . Not their comments - me, not being able to judge it right.

And of course, if I wear too much, it's more to carry home!

You have my sympathies there, often I put on all of my wets and get about a quarter of the way to work when the rain stops and it suddenly gets warm. Result = boil in the bag. Or the other way where I leave for work and it's nice and dry, cue the quarter distance rule, and I spy a black ominous cloud moving my way in the distance. Then I have to try to outrun the cloud to beat it to work, and I always lose!

I have lots of good friends at work but you can feel yourself wanting to swing for them when they come out with things like "how come you're all hot and sweaty then eh?". Er, hello, cycling?

Wore my Altura rain jacket for the first time this morning. Absolutely ringing wet by the time I arrived at work an hour later after cycling through intermittent drizzle. On the inside, not the outside...

In my view it's not cold enough for a jacket yet. I've no idea how other cyclist cope with trousers, over trousers, tee shirts, jumpers and jackets.

Working my funny hours doesn't help, as I frequently make a minor error in clothing choice.

I've only got it spectacularly wrong once, when I arrived at work in the middle of last winter, and spent the first half hour trying not to throw up. I had a jacket on, but not layered enough underneath, and it was about -7 degrees...

Look out the window, check breakfast news weather report. >10C wear summer kit, <10C wear rain jacket and long fingered gloves with shorts and ss top. <2C consider putting longs on.

I work on the basis that if Ronaldo could run round for 90 mins in shorts and a soccer top in 10C, I can manage 30 mins of cycling.

So far I've just cycled in my civvies (T-shirt, cardi, skirt), and keep a rain mac in my basket. I'm usually a bit nippy for the first 5 minutes but I soon warm up. My only concession for cold days is tights.

Montane Jetstream this morning...

persistent enough rain to warrant it, not too thick for overheating. Only problem is the balloon it makes around my shoulders like quasimodo, then the loud flapping on the descents

I tend to wear shorts for most of the year, tights for just a couple of months, I don't mind cold legs. I have an altura windproof jacket which I wear from Mid October onwards. But in late summer/early autumn I find either a shortsleeved jersey or a shortsleeved over a base long sleeved Jersey to be more than enough.

I wear my Montane featherlite if it's raining but on a half hour commute I just pedal faster if I'm cold to be honest.

It's weather like today I hate. The humidity is like cycling through steam.

I have a look at the thermometer to gauge the clothing I'll wear for the day.

If it's cool, I'll go for leggings and bib shorts, a merino wool top under a GoreTex jacket, warm gloves and a buff and/or headband.

Plus rain overshoes and a light rainjacket carried in a small daybag.

It's better to start cool (as opposed to warm) as you will soon warm up and will not want to overheat.

If it's warm/hot (seldom here early in the morning) just a s/s shirt and bib shorts.

I just look out the window and base my clothing on that and a quick weather check. Not failed me yet.

Had a bad fail on that many years ago. I was a dry weather cyclist only back then. Looked out, and the sun was shining. I had no wet weather bike gear, and decided it was good enough to cycle.
OK, by the time I was at the front door, it was cloudy, but still dry. By the time I was half way to work the rain had started in earnest. By the time I arrived at my office, my white shirt was see-through, and I had nothing else to change into.

Fortunately I had a company jacket to put on.
