Missing parcel, now I appear to be down 80 quid

I don't think that Royal mail is losing the plot.  I still get goods delivered the day after placing an online order with the likes of Amazon and Chain Reaction Cycles. Folk who buy some the the high quality tat that I place on Ebay often post feedback within 24 hours of me dispatching the goods.

I have to say this is my experience of Royal Mail as well.  At work, we have a lot of stuff coming and going and the service has always been excellent and I can't recall anything ever going missing in the 5 years I have worked here. I also buy a fair amount of stuff from Ebay and other UK based retailers and have it sent to my work address rather than pay additional carriage to take it a few miles across the border to my home and again, the service is excellent with many things I've bought from online arriving the next morning, even heavy items like a clutch and pressure plate for my car bought from GSF. Perhaps I'm lucky to work about 100 yards away from the main Royal Mail sorting office in the area.


In comparison, the postal service in ROI is simply hopeless with even local letters often taking a week to be delivered. I missed job interviews and a hospital appointment because of this in the past.

Right update time. Had a barney with my Brother over this last night, last time I get him to order anything for me. I told him Wiggle should be chasing or claiming for lost goods, he said I should phone a sorting office (he's gone and aquired the number to a sorting office that isnt even local FFS, so thats a waste of bleedin time)

He then said "you know where the sorting office is, how much do you want the parcel?" WTF? They aint going to give it to me, even so much as look - its in his name. (Have tried to pick up parcels in the past at the local RM depot when they've missed deliveries and not put the full name on the card, they're pretty good at checking for ID first)

Wow, I must be very lucky with my postie (or maybe it's the nice tip I give him at xmas). I just told him where I wanted parcels left if I'm out, and he leaves them there for me.

I think there's more to this somehow, another truth lying in wait perhaps. No idea what it is (not suggesting brother is dishonest btw) but it just seems like too many disjointed events.

Wiggle's emails are automated; I don't get how the despatch email wasn't received... unless it was never sent? I reckon you should be getting back on to Wiggle rather than trying to chase the postie.

Having read this a few times it seems to suggest that your brother is saying that the parcel has been delivered and is at sorting office and that he wants you to collect it if you want it badly enough. But you are saying that you can't collect it as it is in your brother's name.


That now sounds very different to it being lost or Wiggle not having sent it.

I often get my Mum to collect parcels for me, she just takes a couple of utility bills and my passport as ID.

My take on RM is that they're the second-worst parcel delivery company currently operating, with all the other couriers tying for first equal. Certainly for deliveries to domestic premises, the fact that the depot is usually within walking or easy cycling distance makes up for an awful lot. I've had stuff sent via Citylink (I think it was) where they took it to a depot further away from my house than the original sender was

I once bought a very nice suit mail order from James Meade in their sale. Never arrived, so I called them and found that they had lots of stuff just "lost" by RM on a regular basis. They had no more suits but gave me an instant refund.

RM were just not interested. Why? When I looked into it they "lose" the equivilent of a very large warehouse full of mail every year. They didn't want to know because in some RM areas organised theft of mail is rife. This is a shame because most posties do a good job under a lot of pressure.

If anyone sees a postie in a smart pin stripe double breasted suit I'd like a word with him!
