It only used to have 2 syllables, AL-BA... Then some trendies came along and decided it needed to be pronounced as if there was another A in the middle.
My thoughts too. I hadn't bothered to reply until now as I didn't want to hi-jack this thread.
I'd be happy to start a thread on BBC ALBA (it's been my favourite TV channel for at least the last five years) - and I'd also be happy to start a thread on Scottish Gaelic - a language that fascinates me.
There seems little (or no) interest in either topic from forum members who live in Scotland - until @rualexander chipped in.
