@Chris S my lad has Tesco PAYG Triple Credit. There is no time limit on when the credit expires or requirement to make a certain number of calls etc.

The deal, obviously, is Tesco triple your credit when you top up BUT the triple element only lasts a month. My lad only ever uses his phone to call family members and even then is more likely to use FB Messenger.

You can use your credit for data but it’s very expensive.

Three's 123 deal is perfect for me [link, scroll down to calls, text and data]

calls are 3p per minute, texts 2p each and data is 1p per megabite.
Your credit does not expire, but they do say to use your phone at least once every six months so they know it's still active.

I put a tenner in last august and still have £4.50 of credit left... far better than spending £10 a month which expired with 95% of the 'free' calls, texts and data unused.
Thanks - I've just applied for the SIM. I've already got an Orange phone so there shouldn't be any connection problems.
It looks like my 16-year-old Nokia 1100 will be in service for a while yet

If your phone's locked to Orange/EE it won't work on Three's network unless you unlock it. Fortunately that's usually pretty easy, and you can get unlock codes from ebay for typically two or three quid.

PS Having just looked, codes for old Nokias seem to be significantly more expensive...you might be better off buying a new/old one unlocked.

Sorry, just me getting mixed-up again. My phone is on Orange, my laptop is on 3.

I had the phone for years before I needed mobile internet access. When I did I just took out a contract with 3, it was a lot cheaper and allowed me to keep my existing mobile number. I suppose I've now got a spare SIM for my laptop if I need it.

My Nokia 1100 is a 2G phone so it won't run on the 3 network even if it's unlocked. Only 3G phones will work on the 3 network.

Just out of curiosity, why does your laptop have a SIM ?

Got a PAYG mobile from Tesco for £15 and that includes £10 credit. Just have yo call or text once every 180 days.

That has to be the best deal around.

I know it will only be a very basic phone, but it will receive & make calls and texts which is probably perfect for what you need. That is all I ever needed a while back. You basically got a brand new phone for a fiver-a hard to beat deal. :okay:

Thanks - I've gone for that. It's even got a camera, just the thing for 'accidents'. It should come in useful as I live near Sparkhill, the 'cash for crash' capital of the UK.

A camera too-amazing.

This must be a loss leader for Tesco. Sold based on the theory that they will recoup from top ups from the user.

I wouldn't be surprised if these phones had been specially made for Tesco by China or whoever makes then. Possibly with a chip in them that prevents unlocking.

Either way it's a cracking deal. Good find Yukon boy.

When you think that some of the ipones are around £600 plus. I'd want a car for that money.
